Best Places to Stay in Siquijor: Areas, Resorts, and Budget Picks

Aerial view of a coastal area with turquoise waters, coral reefs, and a shoreline lined with houses and vegetation.

Siquijor is small enough to loop in three hours by scooter, which means your choice of accommodation really comes down to vibe, not logistics. Every beach resort, guesthouse, and glamping dome on the island is within 30 to 45 minutes of all the main attractions.

Still, where you base yourself shapes what your mornings feel like, how far you walk for dinner, and how easy it is to catch that west coast sunset without rushing.

I will break down the best areas and resorts in Siquijor by location and budget, from cheap hotels in Larena to luxury beachfront properties in San Juan.

You reach Siquijor by ferry from Dumaguete (30 to 45 minutes), Tagbilaran in Bohol, or Cebu. There is no airport on the island. Ferries dock at either Larena port on the northeast coast or Siquijor Town on the southeast, so factor that into your first accommodation pick if you want a short transfer.

Once you are there, rent a scooter for 300 to 500 pesos per day. It gives you the freedom to beach-hop, waterfall-chase, and get around without depending on tricycles. Most places to stay in Siquijor can arrange rentals, or you will find shops concentrated in San Juan.

Best Areas to Stay in Siquijor

Quiet Beachfront

Solangon Beach

On the southwestern coast between San Juan and Lazi. Calm, shallow water good for swimming, lined with boutique resorts rather than large properties. Roll out of bed onto sand without the full tourist-hub energy of San Juan. You’re 10 to 15 minutes by scooter from San Juan’s dining scene — not truly remote, but noticeably quieter. More beachfront dining options than other low-key areas.

Calm, shallow water Boutique resorts Low-key atmosphere Scooter needed for dining
Best for: Couples, beach-first travelers, anyone wanting quiet without full isolation.
Budget-Friendly

Larena

Northeast coast, home to one of two ferry ports. Less developed than San Juan, which keeps prices lower across the board. The best cheap accommodations on the island tend to cluster here. The trade-off: beach quality and restaurant options don’t match the west coast. Plan to use Larena as a scooter base for exploring rather than a spot to linger on the sand.

Lowest prices Ferry port access Limited beach quality Fewer restaurants
Best for: Budget travelers, backpackers arriving by ferry who want to keep costs down.
Nature + History

Lazi

Southern coast, close to Lugnason Falls and the Lazi Church — one of the oldest in the Philippines. Quieter and more local-feeling than the west coast, with fewer tourist facilities. Suits travelers happy to eat simply and feel genuinely away from the circuit. Accommodation options are smaller, and some properties run on solar power only.

Near Lugnason Falls Historic Lazi Church Local atmosphere Very limited facilities
Best for: Families, nature lovers, history travelers who want an unhurried base.
Seclusion

Maria

East coast, closest to Salagdoong Beach — Siquijor’s most famous cliff jumping spot. Dramatic coastal scenery, genuinely away from the tourist trail. Like Lazi, facilities are minimal: smaller accommodations, simple eating options, some properties on solar only. This is full off-grid island energy.

Salagdoong Beach nearby Dramatic coastline Very uncrowded Minimal tourist facilities Solar power only (some)
Best for: Adventurous travelers, cliff-jumping, anyone wanting true seclusion.

When to Visit

The dry season runs December through May. March and April bring the most sun but also the highest prices and most visitors. The shoulder months of December, January, and February offer good weather with sligchtly lower rates.

June through November is rainy season. Daily rain is common, though it rarely lasts all day. Rates drop noticeably, and the best beaches in Siquijor are quieter. September and October see the heaviest rainfall and lowest prices.

Sweet spot: December through February gives you dry weather, manageable crowds, and prices just below peak. March to May is peak season — book accommodation 2+ months ahead. June onward brings rain but near-empty beaches and the cheapest rates of the year.

Booking Tips

  • Book at least two weeks ahead during peak season. Many of the best places to stay in Siquijor are small, family-run properties that fill quickly and do not always appear on major booking platforms. Check their Facebook pages directly and message via WhatsApp for the most accurate availability.
  • Ask your accommodation whether they offer ferry pickup from Larena or Siquijor Town. Many resorts include this or can arrange it for a small fee. It saves you negotiating tricycle fares the minute you step off the boat.
  • ATMs are limited to Larena and Siquijor Town. Arrive with enough cash, and bring small bills since local shops and restaurants often struggle to make change for large notes.
  • Download offline maps before you go. Cell signal drops around remote coastal areas, and having your accommodation pinned while you still have WiFi saves a frustrating search on arrival.
  • Pack reef-safe sunscreen. Several marine sanctuaries on the island enforce this strictly, and Siquijor takes ocean conservation seriously.

How Long to Stay

Three nights is the minimum to do Siquijor properly. Two nights is doable but you will feel like you rushed it. Four or five nights lets you settle in, slow down, and still cover the island’s main attractions without turning every day into a checklist.

The island welcomes slower travel more than most destinations in the Philippines.

Where to Stay in Siquijor: The Short Version

Bohol – Philippines

San Juan is the right base for most first-time visitors. It has the best selection of resorts, the west coast sunset, walkable restaurants, and easy access to every attraction on the island. Larena wins on price and port convenience. Solangon, Lazi, and Maria are for travelers who already know what they want: quiet, nature, and less foot traffic.
