New York Fashion Week is more than just the runway. It’s a space where fashion, beauty, and creativity intersect.
Contributor: Kay’s Perspective
There are endless opportunities for connection and self-discovery. I am a fashion and creative portrait photographer. I came to New York to create my own opportunities and immerse myself in the city’s creative and fashionable scene.
Into the Scene
Fresh from a photoshoot, I returned to my hotel before heading to the event. A quick refresh and an outfit change were necessary. When I feel good in what I wear, I show up as the best version of myself. Confidence, after all, is key in spaces like this, especially when navigating them solo.
The ‘Meet Me in New York’ event was hosted by The Modern Day Wife at an upscale hotel. It was ideally perfect for the night. When I walked in, I noticed everyone’s amazing looks—they were stylish and showed their personalities. Fashion Week is like a public runway; everyone dressed like they were ready to impress. I paused to take it all in, enjoying the atmosphere before jumping into the action.
More Than Just Fashion

Besides the glamour of fashion and appearance, this event also curated an experience. From pop-up boutiques to panel sessions, there was something for every fashionista or beauty enthusiast. One lingerie brand stood out, and I paused to engage with their collection. Another plus was the opportunity to get a mini glam session—a nice touch highlighting the intersection of fashion and beauty.
While walking through the event, I caught part of a panel discussion about content creation and finding your niche. As a multifaceted creative, this resonated deeply with me. The pressure to define a niche and find where you belong can feel overwhelming. However, I’ve come to embrace the journey of exploration. Just like showing up to events like this, stepping into the unknown often leads to unexpected clarity. Hearing industry professionals share their insights reminded me that growth comes from both intention and spontaneity.
A Different Perspective on the Fashion Show

The highlight of the evening was, of course, the fashion show. The space did get crowded in a flash but I just so happened to be standing right by the entrance. This position gave me a unique view. Models appeared and disappeared, adorned in designs that reflected a myriad of aesthetics. The evening began with a performance, which set a lively tone that persisted throughout.
Unlike my usual experience behind the camera, I was simply an attendee this time. Without a press pass, I opted for my small digital camera to capture a few moments. It was a shift in perspective. While documenting is part of my craft, being fully present is just as valuable.
Confidence, Community, and Creative Growth

I asked a few fellow attendees to take my photo as the night wrapped up. I pushed myself out of my comfort zone—a small but significant act of embracing the experience. Walking away, I reflected on what I gained. I learned the importance of showing up for myself. I discovered the beauty of spontaneous opportunities. I found reassurance knowing that every creative journey unfolds in its own time.
Fashion Week is about more than just style; it’s about empowerment, connection, and the continuous evolution of creative identity.
For me, this event was another stepping stone into the world of style and variety. It helped me navigate the ever-changing landscape of fashion and photography. I’ll carry this experience into my future work and experiences.
